Estreada em 1889, ap\u00f3s a Aboli\u00e7\u00e3o da Escravatura no Brasil, foi dedicada \u00e0 Princesa Isabel. As r\u00e9citas ocorreram nos dias 21, 25 e 27 de outubro, \u00e0s 20 horas, e no dia 23 de outubro, \u00e0s 17 horas.\r\nA obra, que tem libreto do italiano Rodolfo Paravicini, escrito com base no argumento de Alfredo d\u2019Escragnolle Taunay, o Visconde de Taunay, foi executada pelo Ballet, Coro e Orquestra Sinf\u00f4nica do Theatro Municipal do Rio de Janeiro. Os solistas nos pap\u00e9is centrais foram as sopranos Adriane Queiroz (Ilara) e Cl\u00e1udia Azevedo (Condessa de Boissy), o bar\u00edtono Rodolfo Giuliani (Iber\u00ea), o tenor Fernando Portari (Am\u00e9rico), o baixo Saulo Javan (Conde Rodrigo), o bar\u00edtono Leonardo P\u00e1scoa (Gianfera) e o baixo Pedro Olivero (Goitac\u00e1).\r\nA montagem contou ainda com a participa\u00e7\u00e3o especial da primeira bailarina Karen Mesquita, \u00e0 frente do Corpo de Baile do Theatro Municipal, e de alunos da Escola Estadual de Dan\u00e7a Maria Olenewa em coreografia de Jo\u00e3o Wlamir.
